Picking the right pillow can be a confusing task. With such a vast range of shapes, sizes, fillings and casings on the market, where should you start?
With years of experience, research and development Homescapes understand that everyone is different. By listening to our customers and understanding their needs we are proud to offer a range of over 80 pillows, allowing you to choose a pillow that suits your sleeping style, filling preference and taking into account any allergies you may suffer from.
Choosing the Right Pillow When choosing your pillow there are four things you need to ask yourself:
What’s position do I sleep in?
Which pillow filling do I prefer?
What size pillow do I need?
Do I suffer from any allergies?
This buyer guide will help you to answer these important question, informing you how our pillows are made and what pillow types suit different sleeping styles, all helping you to make an informed decision and find the right pillow for your needs.
Firstly, The Certification and Standards As specialists in the pillow and bedding industry, when shopping with Homescapes, you are guaranteed to get the best quality products, manufactured to the highest standards. We are pleased to hold the certification of several, globally recognised standards that reinforce the quality research and development, design and manufacturing that has gone into each and every pillow.
What Position do I sleep in?
Knowing how you sleep, whether it is on your front, back, side or a mixture of all three, is the first part to get right. If you’re not sure, it is usually the position you find yourself in when you wake up in the morning, you could also ask your bed partner.
It is also important to use the correct number of pillows. Although many prefer to sleep on two pillows, sleep specialists suggest that most people would be better off only using one. This provides the correct level of head and neck support whilst keeping your spine properly aligned whilst you are asleep. So if you’re only using one pillow, you want it to be the one.
TIP: If you suffer with back, neck or shoulder pain it may be worth sourcing a specialist pillow, this may be specially designed to support you, like a v-shaped pillow or something more unique like a buckwheat pillow.
We recommend white duck or goose down & softer polyester fillings.
We recommend a feather & down mix, and medium polyester fillings.
Firm pillows for spine alignment.
We recommend white goose or duck feather, and memory foam fillings

Do I suffer with any allergies?
We do as much as possible to prevent the presence of allergens in all of our bedding. Each and every stage of our pillow manufacturing process is rigorously controlled and audited to ensure that we are compliant with British Standards, Oeko-Tex and Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certification regulations.
Hypoallergenic
Hypoallergenic – Relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction Manufactured from 100% Super Microfibre, our synthetic pillows are 100% hypoallergenic and are suitable for those who suffer with asthma or other allergies.
We are also pleased to inform you that our natural pillows are suitable for allergy sufferers. Our natural feather and down fillings are washed and treated with anti-allergen substances and are enclosed within a naturally hypoallergenic, 100% cotton casing. These casings are breathable, soft and washable, with a dense 233 thread count weave and twin-stitched edges that ensure your filling stays put and your pillow stays full. The preventative measures that we take with our pillow manufacturing mean that many people who suffer from feather related allergies are able to use our feather and down pillows without any problem. Providing that you use quality pillow protectors and pillowcases and care for your pillows properly, there should be no reason why you would experience any problems.
Anti-Dust Mite
Hypoallergenic – Relatively unlikely to cause an allergic reaction Manufactured from 100% Super Microfibre, our synthetic pillows are 100% hypoallergenic and are suitable for those who suffer with asthma or other allergies.
With dust mites disliking a synthetic environment, you are considerably less likely to find dust mites present in Microfibre or memory foam pillows. It is still important that you regularly clean them to keep them fresh *Microfibre pillows can be washed and tumble dried, but read the label on memory foam pillows for specific cleaning instructions as they can’t be put in the washing machine!
Dust mites love heat and have commonly been associated with bedding and especially pillows. For a dust mite to thrive that temperature needs to be 40C, with this highest ever recorded temperature in the UK being 38.5C this should not be a cause for concern As well as using a pillow that is suitable to your everyday, allergy requirements, we also advise that you use pillow protectors and 100% cotton pillowcases. Our densely woven, quilted pillow protectors, paired with a high thread count cotton pillowcase will help keep allergens (specifically dust-mites) at bay. Furthermore, following the correct care instructions will help keep your pillow fresh, so washing it regularly (at least every 6 months) at the highest degree advised will kill off any dust mites.
TIP: A pillow isn’t for life. Over time a pillow will dip and stop providing the support that it is meant for. Regular cleaning and proper care will help prolong its life but Homescapes recommend that you change your pillow every 12-18 months depending on its condition.
Pillow care
With over 80 pillow styles available the filling type, casing and composition will determine how they need to be cared for, please read the care instructions label for more information.
Feather and down pillows are great at keeping their shape and can be plumped and preened into your desired shape and position.
Most of our synthetic pillows can be washed at home, when washing, please make sure to follow the instructions on the label, and ensure that they are completely dry before using them again.
TIP: We recommend plumping your pillows every day to ensure they remain plump and comfortable. With pillows that can be tumble dried, put them into a tumble dryer for 15 minutes with some dryer balls for extra fluffiness. If you don’t have dryer balls, a tennis ball in a clean sock will have the same effect.
