National Bed Month Q&A 2022

Being one of the UK’s largest suppliers of pillows, duvets and bed linen, we like to think we know a thing or two when it comes to sleep. Our friendly Customer Care team are well informed when it comes to all things bed related. As March is National Bed Month, we’ve put together a quick Q&A on all things bed and sleep related.

Q: What makes your Organic bedding organic?

A: Our range of Organic bedding has a 400 thread count, so it feels a little more luxurious. It’s woven from 100% Egyptian cotton which is an organic source. However, what makes it different – and organic – from our other bedding ranges is how the fabric is dyed. Each colour is made from an organic dye meaning that we can class this bedding as completely organic. It’s also GOTS certified.

Q: I have allergies; which pillow is best for me?

A: If you suffer from allergies, your bedding can have a big impact on your health. The general rule of thumb is to stay away from natural fillings like feather and down, and opt for synthetic fillings such as Microfibre instead. However, not all natural fillings are allergenic. For example, our wool and silk duvets are also naturally hypoallergenic. But, if you’re not sure, Microfibre or hollowfibre pillows are a good place to start.

Q: What’s a Tog rating?

A: Put simply, a Tog rating relates to how warm and cosy you can expect a duvet to be. The higher the tog, the warmer the duvet. If you’re looking for one duvet that fits all seasons, then our All Seasons duvet is designed to keep you cosy all year round. It includes one 4.5 Tog duvet and one 9 Tog duvet that you can combine together to make a cosy 13.5 Tog duvet.

Q: I get too hot in bed but I like having a duvet – what do you recommend?

A: We get asked this question a lot. Feeling overheated in bed can often cause a bad night’s sleep, so it’s important to get this right. Go for a duvet that is temperature regulating, like wool or silk. These types of fillings wick away moisture to leave you feeling cool and fresh all night long. Q: Why is Egyptian cotton more expensive than regular cotton bedding?

A: At Homescapes, we choose to use Egyptian cotton rather than regular cotton because we believe it is the best. This is simply down to the conditions in Egypt where the cotton plant grows. Although Egyptian cotton may be more expensive than regular cotton, it is worth it. Not only does it feel more luxurious than regular cotton, but it is also a lot more durable. Q: Is down better than feather?

A: Down tends to be more expensive than feather, but it is not necessarily the case that it is better. Rather, feather and down have very different qualities and act differently inside a duvet or pillow so it really comes down to personal preference. Find out more about the difference between feather and down here.

Q: Do I have to use a pillow protector?

A: It is not absolutely necessary to use a pillow protector, but you may find that using them help to increase the longevity of your pillows. Some people may choose to use pillow and duvet protectors for different reasons, and we have a load on offer to fit different purposes.
