Getting cosy in Autumn in our house involves malteser hot chocolate sprinkled with mini marshmallows, some ridiculous slippers (I’ve huge soft flamingo ones!), a hat that pretty much stays on the entire season, a book and magazine permanently on the sofa arm, creating Pinterest boards of fabulous things and dreamy holiday places, lining up crafts to do with the kids on rainy days and meal planning so there’s no awful weather dashes every day!

TURN THE FIRE UP HAVE SOME MULLED WINE AND A MOVIE. TAP FOR INGREDIENTS
Method
Peel large sections of peel from the clementines, lemon and lime using a speed-peeler.
Put the sugar in a large saucepan over a medium heat, add the pieces of peel and squeeze in the clementine juice.
Add the cloves, cinnamon stick, bay leaves and about 10 to 12 gratings of nutmeg. Halve the vanilla pod lengthways and add to the pan, then stir in just enough red wine to cover the sugar.
Let this simmer until the sugar has completely dissolved into the red wine, then bring to the boil. Keep on a rolling boil for about 4 to 5 minutes, or until you’ve got a beautiful thick syrup. The reason I’m doing this first is to create a wonderful flavour base by really getting the sugar and spices to infuse and blend well with the wine. It’s important to make a syrup base first because it needs to be quite hot, and if you do this with both bottles of wine in there you’ll burn off the alcohol.
When your syrup is ready, turn the heat down to low and add your star anise and the rest of the wine. Gently heat the wine and after around 5 minutes, when it’s warm and delicious, ladle it into heatproof glasses and serve.
Buy myself some cosy jumpers and a hat, then seriously consider the option of hibernation over a hot chocolate!

I love the Summer so much that I have to work extra hard in order to love Autumn too. The best kind of day is when it’s a crisp, clear and freezing day and there are loads of crunchy leaves on the ground in those beautiful firey colours. To achieve maximum cozy you have to get outside for a good long time first! I wrap up warm and head outside to step on as many leaves as I can for the satisfying crunch, even better if you can kick them up! I then head to the shops and begin to stock up on books, candles and all things October-December. I get home (and out of the cold!) just as it’s getting dark where I crank up the heating, change into my warmest pjs, make a cuppa and drag my duvet through to the couch for an evening of films or a blether with the girls if they come round. Per-fec-tion.
trundle down from the woodshed with a barrow full of logs, stack them in the garden room, fill the log basket (warm already) then build a fire and settle down with the family for a cosy evening watching the flames while playing Monopoly.

Nothing better than snuggling up on our day bed with my homescape pillow, my homescape quilt, a gripping book and my two little dogs. Scented candle doesn’t go amiss, nor does a nice hot drink and a bar of chocolate. Pure heaven!
