Homescapes Fully Lined Blackout Curtains

Everything You Need to Know About Blackout Curtains

You might have read our blog the other week on Jacquard Curtains, well this week it’s the turn of the ever-practical Blackout Curtain.

What are Blackout Curtains?

As you’ve probably guessed, blackout curtains are great for blocking out light, whether it’s the sun’s rays or the artificial glow of streetlamps that is disturbing your sleep. What you possibly didn’t know is that blackout curtains can also help to reduce noise from outside and, most importantly, save you some money on heating bills.

Who are they for?

Blackout curtains are perfect for anyone who finds their sleep being disrupted by natural or artificial light. They are especially popular with shift workers who sleep during the day, travellers who have to adjust to different time zones or parents with young children who go to bed during daylight hours.

They are also ideal for those who wish to save money on their heating bills (who doesn’t?) as the thermal blackout lining helps to keep the heat in during cold weather. This thermal lining also maintains a cool interior during the warm weather, perfect for that one weekend a year in the UK when it’s actually hot!

What is ‘3 Pass’ blackout technology?

The level of blackout is measured in ‘passes’. Blackout linings and coatings are created by running a fine layer of foam across the back of a fabric. A three pass lining means that a layer of white foam is applied to the back of the curtain fabric, then a black one, followed by another layer of white. The white layers mean that the black colour doesn’t disrupt the decorative finish of the fabric while the black layer blocks light and retains heat.

How to Use Blackout Curtains in your Home

All of our blackout curtains use 3-pass (3P) blackout linings, so you can be sure that you’re getting the best in blackout. Check out our favourites below.

    Hello,
are you able to add a 3 pass blackout to some sheer fabric that is 118″ wide.
It is a Schumacher fabric that I need to black out and railroad to make a roller shade.
This window shade cannot be split.
    Thank you,
